About
Zhengjun Wang is pioneering the frontier of intelligent tactile sensing for human–machine and human–robot interaction. His research centers on developing large-area, high-resolution electronic skins (e-skins) that can perceive touch with unprecedented precision and safety. Wang’s major contributions include the invention of a sandwich Miura-ori structure that enables super-resolution tactile sensing across vast surfaces using minimal sensing units—a breakthrough detailed in his 2025 paper, which has already garnered 14 citations. He further advanced the field with a deep learning-powered, kirigami-structured robotic e-skin that achieves real-time contact localization and intensity estimation, critical for safe collaborative robotics. By integrating conformal, origami-inspired mechanics with neural network algorithms, Wang has solved the long-standing challenge of balancing sensing area, resolution, and cost. His work directly enables safer, more intuitive interactions between humans and robots in shared workspaces, with applications spanning industrial automation to assistive technologies. Wang’s innovative fusion of materials design and artificial intelligence positions him as a rising leader in the next generation of smart, adaptive robotic interfaces.
