About
Yuchao Yang is a pioneering researcher at the forefront of neuromorphic computing and bio-inspired electronics. His work centers on developing artificial sensory systems that mimic biological neural processing, with a particular focus on memristor-based devices for multimodal sensing and in-sensor computing. Yang's most notable contribution is the demonstration of an artificial multisensory neuron using a VO2 memristor that can simultaneously process haptic and temperature stimuli, enabling fused tactile-thermal perception for applications in electronic skin and neurorobotics. This work, published in 2022, has already garnered significant attention with 17 citations. He has also contributed to the broader field through a comprehensive roadmap on neuromorphic devices and applications in China, reflecting his leadership in coordinating national research efforts. Additionally, Yang has explored hardware implementations of spiking neural networks for mobile robot control and, most recently, developed a highly energy-efficient 3D point cloud neural network accelerator achieving 109.8 TOPS/W. His research bridges fundamental device physics with practical system-level implementations, making him a key figure in advancing brain-inspired computing hardware.
