About

Dr. You-Ping Liu is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work has transformed the management of recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). His primary research focuses on minimally invasive surgical techniques for complex head and neck cancers, particularly through the development of transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Dr. Liu’s landmark 2020 study on “Transoral Robotic Retropharyngeal Lymph Node Dissection in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma With Retropharyngeal Lymph Node Recurrence” (18 citations) introduced a groundbreaking alternative to reirradiation for patients with retropharyngeal lymph node recurrence. This work demonstrated that TORS could safely access the challenging retropharyngeal space, dramatically reducing the severe radiotoxicity associated with conventional salvage radiotherapy. By proving that robotic surgery offers a viable, less toxic option for these patients, Dr. Liu has expanded surgical frontiers and improved quality of life for NPC survivors. His contributions represent a paradigm shift in salvage treatment, offering new hope where open surgery was once deemed too risky. Dr. Liu continues to refine robotic techniques, advancing the field of transoral oncologic surgery.
