About

Yingnan Lin is a leading researcher in neurorehabilitation engineering, with a focus on robot-assisted therapy for stroke recovery. Her work centers on developing and evaluating human-robot collaborative interaction technologies to restore upper limb function in stroke survivors—a population for whom impaired arm use severely compromises independence and quality of life. In a landmark 2021 study (31 citations), Lin demonstrated the efficacy of task-oriented training using novel force control technology, showing significant functional gains in chronic stroke patients. She then led a multicentre randomized controlled trial (2022, 23 citations) comparing robot-assisted training to enhanced conventional therapy, providing critical evidence that robotic interventions can produce superior outcomes not only for the upper extremity but also for lower limb function. Lin has also advanced the customization of passive neurorehabilitation exercises by integrating teaching-training mechanisms into robotic systems (2021, 12 citations), enabling more personalized early-stage therapy. Her most recent work (2025) employs resting-state fMRI to uncover the neural mechanisms—specifically, neuroplastic reorganization—underlying robotic-assisted therapy’s efficacy. Through rigorous clinical trials and mechanistic investigations, Lin is shaping the future of evidence-based, technology-driven stroke rehabilitation.
