About
Wilhelm Ansorge is a pioneer in the automation of DNA sequencing, a field whose technical advances have underpinned the genomics revolution. His most influential contribution is the development of the first automated protocol for Sanger dideoxy sequencing reactions, published in 1988. By programming an industrial robot to handle the repetitive pipetting steps, Ansorge eliminated a major source of human error and tedium, dramatically increasing the throughput and reliability of sequencing. This foundational work, which has garnered 72 citations, laid the critical groundwork for the high-throughput platforms that later enabled the Human Genome Project.
