About
Wayne Zimmerman is a robotics and planetary exploration engineer whose career has centered on developing autonomous robotic systems for some of the most challenging environments in the solar system. Best known for his pioneering work on cryobot technology, Zimmerman has dedicated significant effort to designing ice-penetrating vehicles capable of exploring Mars's polar ice caps and Jupiter's moon Europa — destinations where liquid water, and potentially life, may exist. His landmark 2002 paper, "Cryobot: an ice penetrating robotic vehicle for Mars and Europa," has garnered 68 citations and remains a foundational reference in the field of planetary subsurface exploration.
