V. Sasyuk is an observational astronomer whose work bridges the high-energy universe of gamma-ray bursts and the search for new worlds beyond our solar system. A key contributor to the study of rare, distant cosmic explosions, Sasyuk co-authored a landmark 2023 paper on an exceptionally bright optical emission from a rare and distant gamma-ray burst, a work that has already garnered 14 citations for its insights into these powerful transient events. On the exoplanetary frontier, Sasyuk has been instrumental in the Exoplanet Two-Square Degree Survey, using the 0.5-m robotic telescope at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SAO RAS) to monitor large swaths of sky for transiting planets. This effort led to the discovery of eight new exoplanet candidates, reported in a 2023 study (5 citations), where photometric observations with a 50-cm robotic telescope revealed transits as shallow as Δm = 0.005 mag. Sasyuk’s work demonstrates a rare versatility—from probing the most violent explosions in the cosmos to detecting the subtle dimming of starlight caused by distant planets—showcasing the power of small-telescope surveys in advancing both time-domain astrophysics and exoplanet science.
