About
Todd Wood is a physical oceanographer whose research centers on autonomous robotic observation of ocean carbon cycling, particularly in high-latitude and coastal systems. His most influential work, "Robotic Observations of Enhanced Carbon Biomass and Export at 55°S During SOFeX" (2004, 141 citations), deployed profiling floats to track carbon biomass and export during the Southern Ocean Iron Experiment (SOFeX). This study provided critical evidence of how iron fertilization in high-nitrate, low-silicate waters drives carbon export to depths of 100 meters, advancing understanding of the biological pump’s role in global carbon sequestration.
