Terje Vagstad is an orthopedic researcher whose work focuses on advancing surgical techniques for recurrent anterior shoulder instability, particularly in cases involving significant glenoid bone loss. His major contributions center on the development and biomechanical validation of novel arthroscopic subscapular sling procedures. Vagstad pioneered the subscapular sling technique using a semitendinosus graft, which uniquely provides both static and dynamic shoulder stabilization. He later refined this approach with the quadriceps tendon–bone (QTB) sling modification, designed specifically for patients with severe glenoid bone loss—a challenging clinical scenario. His most-cited work, a 2019 cadaveric study (9 citations), demonstrated that the subscapular sling procedure grants superior biomechanical stability compared to the standard arthroscopic Bankart repair.
