Tayfun Aybek is a pioneering cardiac surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the field of minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery. His work centers on totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass grafting (TECAB), computer-enhanced telemanipulation, and robotically assisted cardiac procedures using systems such as the da Vinci surgical platform. Aybek was among the earliest surgeons to demonstrate the clinical feasibility of closed-chest, robot-assisted coronary bypass surgery, with his landmark 2002 report on forty-five TECAB cases accumulating 181 citations and establishing a foundational reference in the field.
