About

Sunghoon Kim is a gynecologic surgeon and clinical researcher whose work has significantly advanced the field of minimally invasive and robotic surgery for gynecologic cancers, particularly cervical and endometrial cancer. Over more than a decade of prolific research, Kim has systematically evaluated the safety, feasibility, and optimization of robot-assisted laparoscopic procedures, contributing foundational evidence on learning curves, surgical outcomes, and perioperative complication management. His early pioneering work on robotic single-port transumbilical hysterectomy (2011) demonstrated the feasibility of novel port configurations, while his comparative studies between robotic and conventional laparoscopic radical hysterectomy helped define best practices across surgical platforms. Notably, Kim investigated how institutional learning curves influence not only technical proficiency but also long-term patient survival outcomes, an insight with meaningful implications for surgical training programs. His more recent research comparing da Vinci SP and Xi systems for endometrial cancer staging reflects his continued engagement with emerging robotic technologies. With a body of work accumulating over 300 citations, Kim's contributions provide clinicians worldwide with rigorous, practice-shaping evidence for the adoption and refinement of robotic gynecologic oncology surgery.
