About
Shiori Murata is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work centers on refining robotic-assisted surgical techniques for kidney and prostate cancers, with a particular focus on minimizing invasiveness while preserving organ function. Her most impactful contributions involve challenging the conventional practice of renorrhaphy (suturing the kidney) during partial nephrectomy. In a series of studies, including her most-cited 2019 paper (18 citations), she demonstrated that omitting cortical renorrhaphy in robot-assisted partial nephrectomy is safe and effective for both small (cT1a) and larger (cT1b) renal tumors, achieving comparable perioperative outcomes.
