Sergio Garrido-Jurado is a leading figure in computer vision, best known for his pioneering work on fiducial marker systems. His research focuses on developing robust, highly reliable visual markers for augmented reality, robotics, and camera pose estimation. Garrido-Jurado’s landmark 2014 paper, "Automatic generation and detection of highly reliable fiducial markers under occlusion," has accumulated over 2,500 citations, establishing the ArUco library as a de facto standard in the field. This work introduced a dictionary-based marker generation method that dramatically improved detection under partial occlusion and challenging lighting conditions.
