About
Sandhya S. Visweswariah is a pioneering molecular endocrinologist whose research focuses on the signaling mechanisms of guanylyl cyclase receptors and their roles in intestinal and renal physiology. Her seminal work elucidated the structure-function relationships of the heat-stable enterotoxin receptor (STaR) and its endogenous ligand, guanylin, revealing critical pathways in electrolyte and fluid homeostasis. With over 10,000 citations, her studies have profoundly impacted our understanding of diarrheal diseases and hypertension. Notably, her discovery of the guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) receptor as a therapeutic target has driven the development of drugs like linaclotide for irritable bowel syndrome.
