About
S. Peresada is a pioneering figure in nonlinear control theory and electric motor drives, best known for groundbreaking contributions to feedback linearization of switched reluctance motors (SRMs). His seminal 1987 paper, *Feedback linearizing control of switched reluctance motors*, has garnered over 475 citations, establishing a foundational framework for high-performance SRM drives. This work, motivated by advances in power electronics and the rise of direct-drive robotics, demonstrated how to apply feedback linearization to achieve precise torque and speed control in these inherently nonlinear, low-cost, and reliable motors. Peresada further extended this approach to robotics in his 1986 paper on direct-drive robots, addressing the complex challenge of trajectory tracking by integrating both mechanical and electrical subsystem dynamics. His research has profoundly influenced the design of efficient, sensorless control systems for industrial automation and electric vehicles. With a career spanning decades, Peresada’s work remains a cornerstone for students and researchers exploring nonlinear control, motor drives, and mechatronics, offering elegant solutions to real-world actuation problems.
