Ronald van der A is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on satellite remote sensing of aerosols, trace gases, and surface ultraviolet (UV) radiation. His major contributions include pioneering the use of multi-satellite records—such as ATSR, AATSR, and MODIS—to construct and evaluate long-term aerosol optical depth (AOD) datasets over China, revealing two decades of spatial and seasonal aerosol patterns.
