About

Rikiya Onimaru is a leading figure in pediatric radiation oncology, whose work centers on advancing proton therapy for central nervous system (CNS) tumors in children, adolescents, and young adults. His primary research focus is the development and clinical validation of intensity-modulated proton craniospinal irradiation (ipCSI), a technique designed to reduce the long-term toxicities of conventional radiotherapy. Onimaru’s major contribution is the pioneering of a novel ipCSI system that integrates gantry-mounted orthogonal X-ray imagers with a robotic six-degrees-of-freedom patient table, enabling precise, large-field treatment.
