Reiad Najjar is a urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). His primary research focus is the development and refinement of robotic bilateral nephrectomy as a safer, less invasive alternative to traditional open surgery for patients with massively enlarged polycystic kidneys. Najjar’s major contributions include pioneering the use of both the da Vinci XI and da Vinci Single Port platforms for synchronous bilateral nephrectomy, demonstrating that these robotic approaches can reduce morbidity while achieving excellent surgical outcomes. His most-cited paper, “Robotic bilateral nephrectomy for large polycystic kidney disease” (2023, 6 citations), provides a detailed technical description of this novel procedure.
