About
Dr. Rebekah Beach is a pioneering urologic surgeon and educator whose work has fundamentally shaped the training of laparoscopic and robotic surgeons. Her primary research focuses on surgical education, skills assessment, and the development of standardized curricula to ensure competency in minimally invasive urologic surgery. Dr. Beach’s most significant contribution is the introduction and validation of the American Urological Association (AUA) Basic Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery Skills Curriculum, a landmark 2011 study cited over 55 times. This work adapted the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) framework—originally designed for general surgeons—specifically for urologists, providing the first validated, standardized tool for assessing basic laparoscopic skills in the field.
