Rastislava Krasnik is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of pediatric rehabilitation and social robotics, whose work focuses on integrating humanoid robots into therapeutic settings for children with motor and cognitive disabilities. Her most significant contribution is the creation of the first pilot corpus of child-robot interaction in therapeutic environments, published in 2017, which documented real-world interactions between twenty-one children and the conversational humanoid robot MARKO at the Clinic of Paediatric Rehabilitation in Novi Sad. This foundational work, with 18 citations, established a critical empirical baseline for understanding how children engage with robotic assistants during kinesiotherapy. Krasnik further advanced the field by developing a virtual robot rehabilitation training system for children with cerebral palsy (2024), a multi-module system designed to motivate and encourage young patients through gamified interaction with a virtual humanoid robot. Her research also explores the social dimensions of robotic rehabilitation, including parental attitudes toward robot-assisted therapy (2019) and the conceptual framing of robots as full members of the rehabilitation team (2012). By combining rigorous observational methodology with a deep understanding of pediatric care, Krasnik has positioned herself as a key voice in the emerging field of child-robot interaction for therapeutic purposes, demonstrating that socially assistive robots can be both clinically effective and socially acceptable in pediatric (re)habilitation.
