About

Dr. Ran Zhuo is a pioneering pediatric urologic surgeon whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive robotic surgery for complex conditions in children. Her research has fundamentally reshaped surgical approaches for adrenal tumors, pediatric cancers, and congenital urologic anomalies. Dr. Zhuo’s landmark randomized controlled trial comparing robotic versus laparoscopic adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma (51 citations) established critical safety and efficacy benchmarks. She has further demonstrated her expertise through a propensity-matched analysis of 401 patients comparing robotic and laparoscopic posterior retroperitoneal adrenalectomy, identifying which patients derive the greatest benefit from robotic techniques. Beyond adrenal surgery, Dr. Zhuo has developed innovative modifications for infant ureteral reimplantation in obstructive megaureter and pioneered robotic-assisted management of bladder/prostate rhabdomyosarcoma in children. Her work on robot-assisted ureteroplasty with labial mucosal grafting for long ureteral stenosis represents a novel reconstructive technique. With over 110 citations across her most influential papers, Dr. Zhuo’s contributions are defining the frontier of robotic pediatric urology, offering children safer, less invasive surgical options with improved outcomes.
