About
Rachel Pruitt is a pioneering neurosurgeon whose work centers on advancing stereotactic robotic neurosurgery, particularly through the integration of 3D-printing technology. Her major contributions focus on optimizing the introduction and application of the Robotic Surgical Assistant (ROSA™), a frameless stereotactic system approved by the FDA in 2012. In her highly cited 2019 paper, she demonstrated how 3D-printed models can facilitate preoperative rehearsal for ROSA-guided procedures, enhancing surgical precision and team readiness. Building on this, she developed a method combining 3D printing with stereotactic planning for the accurate placement of stereoencephalography (SEEG) electrodes, a technique critical for epilepsy surgery. Most notably, in 2022, Pruitt engineered a novel adapter that expands ROSA’s utility beyond electrode placement to serve as a navigation tool for lesion resection—a significant leap in robotic neurosurgery. Her work, with papers accumulating over a dozen citations, has directly improved the safety, accuracy, and versatility of robotic-assisted brain surgery, establishing her as a key innovator in the field.
