About

Peter Winkler is a leading figure at the intersection of neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, and advanced pain management, with a particular focus on the transformative role of technology in surgical education and precision medicine. His work critically examines how emerging tools like augmented reality, simulation, navigation, and robotics are reshaping postgraduate training, arguing that personalized care models must be rooted in a physician’s ability to master these innovations. In one of his most cited works (30 citations, 2023), he provides a global perspective on this paradigm shift across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the United States. Winkler has also made significant technical contributions to stereotactic radiosurgery and epilepsy surgery. He demonstrated how standardizing dose prescription to the mean internal target volume can improve inter-institutional consistency in pulmonary SBRT (11 citations, 2021), addressing a critical challenge in radiotherapy. Furthermore, his clinical evaluation of VarioGuide® frameless neuronavigation for stereoelectroencephalography (9 citations, 2021) established its accuracy and low morbidity in localizing epileptogenic zones in drug-resistant epilepsy. Through these contributions, Winkler is helping to define the future of technologically driven, targeted surgical and interventional care.
