About
Penghui He is a leading surgical oncologist specializing in minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery, with a particular focus on robotic and laparoscopic approaches for gastric and colorectal cancers. His research has fundamentally advanced the field by providing high-quality, propensity score-matched evidence comparing robotic-assisted and laparoscopic techniques for advanced-stage cancers—a patient population often underrepresented in surgical trials. He has demonstrated that robotic distal gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy yields favorable short-term outcomes for advanced gastric cancer, while also pioneering the evaluation of natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) in colorectal cancer. His work on totally robotic versus robotic-assisted gastrectomy, as well as robotic NOSES for rectal cancer, has helped define optimal surgical modus operandi. With several highly cited papers—including a 2020 study garnering 46 citations—He’s contributions have shaped clinical decision-making at high-volume centers. He is also leading a randomized controlled trial (NOTR) to rigorously assess robotic NOSES, underscoring his commitment to evidence-based innovation in surgical oncology.
