Nofel Lagrosas is an atmospheric scientist whose research centers on aerosol characterization and air quality in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on the Maritime Continent and the Philippines. A key contributor to the Surface PARTiculate mAtter Network (SPARTAN), he co-authored a landmark 2016 paper (191 citations) that revealed global variations in PM₂.₅ chemical composition, establishing a critical baseline for understanding particulate pollution worldwide. Lagrosas also played a central role in the 7 Southeast Asian Studies (7SEAS) initiative, where his work on aerosol meteorology during the 2012 biomass burning season helped disentangle regional-scale phenomena from local emissions. More recently, he has pioneered an emerging aerosol climatology for Metro Manila using a decade of AERONET remote sensing data (2009–2018), providing the first long-term characterization of aerosol properties over one of Southeast Asia’s most populous megacities. His research bridges ground-based filter sampling, lidar profiling, and satellite remote sensing to address the complex life cycle of aerosols in a region shaped by monsoon dynamics and biomass burning.
