Mathew Williams is a pioneering cardiothoracic surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the field of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. His work centers on developing and refining robotic and endoscopic techniques for treating complex structural heart disease, particularly atrial fibrillation (AF) and valvular pathologies. Dr. Williams made early, impactful contributions by demonstrating that the classic Maze procedure for AF could be replicated through a totally endoscopic, beating-heart approach—a landmark shift away from traditional open-heart surgery.
