About
Masashi Kitagawa is a pioneering surgeon-researcher at the forefront of robotic and minimally invasive urologic surgery. His primary research focus is the development and refinement of advanced robotic techniques for complex renal procedures, with the goal of reducing surgical invasiveness while maintaining patient safety. In his landmark 2020 study, "Robotic Renal Autotransplantation: A Feasibility Study in a Porcine Model," Kitagawa demonstrated the technical feasibility of performing complete renal autotransplantation—including nephrectomy, back-bench preparation, and reimplantation—using only the da Vinci® robotic system.
