Marco Benazzo is a leading figure in the advancement of transoral robotic surgery (TORS), with a career dedicated to refining minimally invasive techniques for both head and neck cancers and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). His most influential work, a 2014 multicenter study cited over 100 times, established critical benchmarks for clinical outcomes and complications in TORS for OSAHS, providing a foundational standard for evaluating this emerging technology in benign disease. Benazzo has also been at the forefront of surgical innovation, demonstrating the feasibility of coupling a flexible thulium laser with a robotic introducer for head and neck cancers, and systematically comparing laser versus monopolar electrocautery in supraglottic and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
