About
Mantu Gupta is a pioneering urologist whose research has fundamentally shaped the fields of minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgical training, and endourology. A leading voice in the adoption of Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) and Single-Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS), his landmark 2008 consensus statement (145 citations) heralded a new era in urologic surgery. Dr. Gupta has made seminal contributions to robotic surgery education, most notably through his validation of the Mimic dV-Trainer for skill acquisition among urology residents (89 citations), establishing evidence-based benchmarks for simulation training. His clinical research has also advanced patient care, including an optimal strategy for penile rehabilitation after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (68 citations) and novel techniques for managing ureteropelvic junction obstruction, such as a thulium fiber laser approach for simultaneous stone removal and endopyelotomy. Beyond technical innovation, Dr. Gupta has shaped the specialty through work on fellowship selection criteria and operating room ergonomics. With a career spanning over a decade of high-impact publications, his work continues to influence how urologists train, operate, and improve patient outcomes.
