Manfred Tschabitscher is a pioneering anatomist and surgeon whose work has fundamentally shaped the intersection of minimally invasive surgery and head-and-neck anatomy. His primary research focuses on the clinical anatomy of the skull base and tongue base, with a particular emphasis on developing and refining robotic and endoscopic surgical approaches. Tschabitscher’s most impactful contribution is his landmark 2011 study on transoral robotic surgery (TORS) of the tongue base for obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), which has garnered over 150 citations. In this work, he provided the first detailed, robotic-perspective anatomical roadmap of the tongue base through meticulous cadaveric dissection, directly translating complex anatomy into a safe, feasible surgical protocol. He further advanced the field by systematically comparing endoscopic, external, and radiological anatomical landmarks for TORS, and by chronicling the technical evolution of neuroendoscopy.
