M. P. Utrillas is a leading atmospheric physicist whose research centers on aerosol remote sensing, Saharan dust transport, and the characterization of atmospheric optical properties over Southern Europe. Her most impactful work investigates extreme dust events, notably the unprecedented February 2017 Saharan dust intrusion over the Iberian Peninsula, which she documented using lidar monitoring and evaluated against dust forecast models—a study that has garnered 99 citations.
