About
Dr. M. Cimino is a pioneering gynecologic oncologic surgeon whose work has advanced the application of robotic surgery in the treatment of gynecologic cancers. Her research focuses on developing and validating minimally invasive robotic techniques for complex oncologic procedures, particularly for endometrial and cervical cancers. Dr. Cimino’s most impactful contribution is her pilot study on robotic single-site hysterectomy for low-risk endometrial cancer, which has garnered 59 citations and helped establish a less invasive surgical option for patients. She also introduced a novel robotic transperitoneal aortic lymphadenectomy technique for gynecologic cancers, a procedure cited 21 times that expanded the reach of robotic surgery to the para-aortic region. Notably, her work on robotic radical hysterectomy following neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced cervical cancer demonstrated the feasibility of combining robotic precision with platinum-based chemotherapy, offering a surgical alternative to chemoradiation. Through these contributions, Dr. Cimino has helped shape the evolution of robotic gynecologic oncology, improving surgical outcomes and expanding treatment options for women with cancer.
