M. C. Facchini is a leading atmospheric chemist whose research focuses on the optical properties and climate impacts of aerosols, particularly in remote and pristine environments. Her major contributions center on brown carbon—light-absorbing organic aerosols that influence the Earth’s radiative balance. In her highly cited 2016 study (134 citations), she characterized water-soluble and methanol-soluble brown carbon in PM₁₀ aerosols collected at the Nepal Climate Observatory-Pyramid in the high Himalayas (5,079 m), revealing how these particles absorb solar radiation even in remote mountain regions.
