About

Lixiang Li is pioneering the next frontier of therapeutic endoscopy by integrating robotics into endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Her research centers on developing and validating novel flexible robotic platforms—such as the flexible auxiliary single-arm transluminal endoscopic robot—to overcome the longstanding challenge of inadequate countertraction during ESD. Through a series of rigorous studies, including a randomized controlled porcine trial and a prospective crossover ex vivo study, Li has demonstrated that robot-assisted ESD significantly enhances procedural efficiency, safety, and, critically, the learning curve for novice endoscopists. Her work shows that novices can perform complex dissections with greater precision and fewer adverse events when assisted by these robotic systems. With her most-cited papers accumulating over 60 citations since 2022, Li’s contributions are already shaping training paradigms and clinical practice. By proving that robotic assistance can make advanced endoscopic procedures both safer and more accessible, Lixiang Li is laying the groundwork for a future where minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery is more widely and reliably performed.
