About
Lingyue Xie is a pioneering researcher in brain-computer interface (BCI) systems, with a focused expertise in integrating steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEP) with robotic control. Her work addresses a critical challenge: enabling physically challenged individuals to intuitively command service robots for real-world tasks. In her highly cited 2017 paper (11 citations), Xie designed an SSVEP-based BCI system with a visual servo module, allowing a single robot to execute multiple tasks—from mobility to manipulation—directly from neural signals. She further advanced the field by developing a vision-assisted navigation module for cooperative control of multiple robots (4 citations), solving the complex problem of coordinating several machines simultaneously through BCI commands. These contributions bridge the gap between laboratory BCI prototypes and practical assistive technologies, demonstrating how human thought can seamlessly translate into robotic action. Xie’s work has laid critical groundwork for next-generation assistive robotics, where users can control not just one, but teams of robots to perform cooperative service tasks, significantly enhancing independence and quality of life for individuals with severe motor impairments.
