Ling Lie is a pioneering roboticist whose work has fundamentally advanced the automation of power grid maintenance. His research focuses on developing intelligent robotic systems for the inspection and repair of high-voltage power transmission lines (PTLs), addressing critical challenges in electrical infrastructure safety and reliability. Lie’s most influential contribution, “Research of power transmission line maintenance robots in SIACAS” (2010), with 24 citations, established foundational methodologies for deploying robots to monitor line conditions and detect damage, replacing dangerous manual inspections performed by workers or helicopters. This work was supported by China’s national high technology research and development program, underscoring its strategic importance.
