Kostas Karpouzis is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of affective computing, human-computer interaction (HCI), and human-robot interaction (HRI). His work centers on enabling machines to recognize, model, and respond to human emotions, with a particular focus on facial affect recognition and real-time emotion analysis. A key contribution is his exploration of the "affective loop"—the idea that virtual agents and robots should not only detect user emotions but also express them to create more natural, empathetic interactions.
