About
Kieran Ryan is a leading figure in the standardization of robotic surgical training, whose work is shaping the future of surgery in Ireland and beyond. His primary research focuses on the development of international curricula and the integration of new technologies into surgical practice. Ryan’s major contribution is the establishment of a global framework for robotic training, as demonstrated by his highly influential 2024 IMRA/SRS Delphi consensus paper. This work, which has already garnered 7 citations, provides the first internationally agreed-upon standards for core components of robotic surgical curricula, addressing a critical gap created by the rapid, unstandardized expansion of robotic surgery worldwide. Additionally, his 2025 report for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) outlines a strategic vision for adopting new surgical technologies, further cementing his role as a key architect of modern surgical education. Through these efforts, Ryan is not only improving patient safety but also ensuring that the next generation of surgeons is equipped with consistent, high-quality training, making him a pivotal voice in the global conversation on surgical innovation.
