About
Keiji Nishibeppu is a surgical oncologist whose research focuses on improving outcomes after gastrectomy for gastric cancer, with a particular emphasis on postoperative complications and their prognostic significance. His work has centered on understanding the clinical impact of pancreatic fistula (PF) and liver dysfunction following gastric cancer surgery. In a landmark 2023 study, Nishibeppu demonstrated that pancreatic fistula is the most powerful predictor of poor prognosis among all postoperative infectious complications, showing the highest recurrence rate and a strong independent association with survival (hazard ratio 0.086).
