About
Kawun Chung is a pioneering breast surgeon whose work has expanded the boundaries of minimally invasive oncoplastic surgery. His primary research focus is on advanced endoscopic and robotic techniques for nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction, particularly for patients traditionally deemed poor candidates. Dr. Chung’s major contribution is the development and validation of the reverse-sequence endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy (R-E-NSM) with direct-to-implant reconstruction, combined with an innovative air inflation adjustment technique. This approach has proven safe and effective even in patients with large or severely ptotic breasts—a population previously considered contraindicated for such procedures. His landmark 2025 prospective cohort study, which has already garnered 3 citations, demonstrates that this technique achieves excellent aesthetic outcomes without compromising oncologic safety.
