About
Kai Fung Chan is pioneering the frontier of medical microrobotics, with a focus on targeted therapeutic interventions using magnetically controlled miniature robots. His research spans biohybrid soft microrobots, magnetic microswarms, and nanorobotic systems for treating challenging conditions like biofilm infections, arterial blockages, and gastrointestinal diseases. Chan’s landmark 2021 paper on endoscopy-assisted magnetic navigation of biohybrid soft microrobots (341 citations) demonstrated high-precision delivery at the whole-body scale, addressing a critical challenge in vision-based microrobot control. His 2022 work on magnetic microswarms for biofilm eradication in biliary stents (155 citations) showcased a novel platform for treating inaccessible implant infections. More recently, his 2024 study on tPA-anchored nanorobots for submillimeter-scale arterial recanalization (72 citations) represents a breakthrough in intravascular therapy.
