About
Dr. K. Matschke is a pioneering cardiac surgeon whose work has fundamentally reshaped the landscape of minimally invasive coronary artery surgery. His primary research focus lies in the evolution and clinical application of robotic-assisted techniques for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Dr. Matschke’s major contribution is his early and systematic demonstration that closed-chest, robotic coronary artery surgery is not only feasible but a viable clinical reality. In his landmark 2000 paper, "Robotic Coronary Artery Surgery - the Evolution of a New Minimally Invasive Approach in Coronary Artery Surgery," which has garnered 46 citations, he reported on the first 79 patients treated with a wrist-enhanced robotic system. This work proved that the da Vinci Surgical System could be safely applied to perform complex coronary anastomoses through small ports, dramatically reducing the trauma of traditional open-heart surgery.
