Joshua P. Schwarz is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on the global lifecycle of black carbon (BC) aerosols and their impact on climate. His work is central to understanding how these short-lived but potent pollutants influence the Earth’s radiative balance. Schwarz’s most influential contribution is the 2013 study that used pole-to-pole aircraft observations from the HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) mission to constrain the global budget and radiative forcing of black carbon, a paper that has garnered over 324 citations.
