About
Jingzhou Zhang is a leading innovator in surface engineering and liquid metal manipulation, whose work redefines how we control wetting at the microscale. His research focuses on the design of super-repellent surfaces, particularly for liquid metals—a field with profound implications for flexible electronics and thermal management. In his landmark 2020 study, “Designing ‘Supermetalphobic’ Surfaces that Greatly Repel Liquid Metal by Femtosecond Laser Processing,” Zhang demonstrated that liquid metal wettability behaves fundamentally differently from water, challenging conventional wisdom. By systematically comparing superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic silicon and PDMS surfaces, he revealed that surface chemistry and microstructure play distinct, often counterintuitive roles in repelling gallium-based alloys.
