About
Jeff Peischl is an atmospheric chemist whose research focuses on the composition and chemistry of the remote troposphere, with an emphasis on trace gases and aerosols. A key contributor to the NASA Atmospheric Tomography Mission (ATom), Peischl helped lead global-scale airborne campaigns that systematically measured aerosol microphysical, chemical, and optical properties across the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Southern Oceans. His work on the ATom mission, which involved flights spanning from ~84°N to ~86°S latitude, has been instrumental in characterizing ambient aerosol properties in some of the most pristine and under-sampled regions on Earth. These global-scale in situ measurements, detailed in his highly cited 2021 paper, provide a critical baseline for understanding natural aerosol processes and their interactions with climate. Peischl’s research has advanced our knowledge of how long-range transport and atmospheric chemistry shape the remote atmosphere, with his most-cited work accumulating over 65 citations. His contributions are vital for improving global climate models and for informing policy on air quality and climate change.
