About
Dr. Hongshuai Jia is a pioneering pediatric urologic surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for complex congenital and acquired urinary tract conditions in children. His work centers on robot-assisted and laparoscopic procedures for ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO), vesicoureteral reflux, and ureteral strictures, with a particular emphasis on adapting these technologies for the youngest and most vulnerable patients. Dr. Jia’s major contributions include demonstrating the safety and efficacy of robot-assisted laparoscopic extravesical ureteral reimplantation in infants under one year of age, a population traditionally considered high-risk for such surgery. He has also provided critical long-term outcome data for robotic pyeloplasty in infants and pioneered the use of minimally invasive appendiceal onlay ureteroplasty for complex proximal ureteral strictures in children. His comparative studies on managing concomitant UPJO and renal calculi have helped refine surgical decision-making. With his most cited paper (6 citations) and a series of recent high-impact publications in 2024-2025, Dr. Jia is establishing the evidence base that is expanding the boundaries of pediatric robotic surgery, offering safer, more effective options for children with challenging urologic conditions.
