About

Hogene Kim is a rehabilitation engineer and researcher whose work sits at the intersection of stroke recovery, motor control, and assistive robotics. His primary research areas include neurorehabilitation, dual-task performance in stroke survivors, and the development of robotic systems for gait and ankle rehabilitation. Kim’s major contributions include investigating the speed-accuracy tradeoffs that adults with stroke hemiparesis face during cognitive-motor dual tasks—a critical insight for designing more effective rehabilitation protocols. He has also pioneered the integration of rhythmic auditory stimulation with robot-assisted gait training, and developed an innovative ankle muscle trainer that combines malleolar and subtalar movement actuators with underfoot reaction force sensors to address drop foot in stroke patients. More recently, Kim has explored the use of feed-forward neural networks to recognize gait environments from biomechanical and physiological signals, a technology with potential applications in fall prevention and adaptive control of wearable robots.
