About

Dr. Hezhi He is a leading researcher in the field of advanced ferroelectric and electroactive polymers, with a primary focus on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based materials. His work has fundamentally advanced the understanding of electrostriction and piezoelectricity in these polymers, which are critical for next-generation soft robotics, wearable electronics, and energy harvesting devices. He is best known for elucidating the origins of giant electrostriction in relaxor ferroelectric PVDF polymers, a breakthrough that has garnered 61 citations. Dr. He further demonstrated that strong electrostatic repulsion among field-induced nanodomains can significantly enhance electrostrictive actuation at reduced electric fields, a key step toward practical low-voltage actuators. His investigations into the role of dipole mobility in secondary crystals have also provided new insights into achieving high piezoelectric performance in PVDF copolymers. With multiple highly cited papers published in 2020 and 2021, Dr. He’s contributions are shaping the future of smart materials for sensing, actuation, and energy conversion.
