Harald Fischer is a pioneering figure in the field of medical robotics, with a career dedicated to developing innovative technologies for minimally invasive surgery and interventional radiology. His primary research areas include MRI-compatible robotic systems, image-guided breast biopsy, and the application of shape memory alloys in medical instruments. Fischer’s most significant contributions lie in the design and clinical validation of robots that operate within high-field MRI scanners, enabling real-time, high-precision interventions. His seminal 2003 paper on an MRI-compatible surgical robot (134 citations) and his 2000 work on a robotic system for breast lesion biopsy and therapy (131 citations) have become foundational references in the field.
