About

Dr. Haiyi Wang is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose research focuses on the surgical management of renal cell carcinoma with venous tumor thrombus, particularly through minimally invasive robotic techniques. Dr. Wang has made landmark contributions to the field by developing and refining robot-assisted inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombectomy procedures for complex Level II, III, and IV thrombi, demonstrating that these high-risk surgeries can be performed safely without cardiopulmonary bypass. Their initial series on Level III-IV thrombectomy (99 citations) and multi-institutional analysis on Level II thrombus (54 citations) have established foundational protocols and decision-making schemes adopted globally. Dr. Wang’s innovative work includes the use of an intrapericardial control technique and virtual vascular endoscopy to precisely identify IVC invasion, enhancing surgical planning and outcomes. Beyond thrombectomy, Dr. Wang is investigating the feasibility of performing radical prostatectomy without prior biopsy in selected patients evaluated by PSMA PET/CT and multiparametric MRI, a paradigm-shifting approach published in a prospective single-arm trial. With a high-volume single-center experience of over 309 cases, Dr. Wang’s work continues to push the boundaries of robotic urologic oncology, improving safety and long-term outcomes for patients with complex renal and prostate cancers.
